This off-season however will see quite a few changes when it comes to affiliations, predominantly in the Double-A and Class-A Leagues. With that previous announcement the CArolina League announced that they would be adding two new teams in Kinston, North Carolina and another location that has yet to be officially announced.
Below is a summary of the other teams who will be changing affiliation this upcoming season.
Double-A:
Texas League
- The Arkansas Travelers who were affiliated with the LA Angels will now be a part of the Seattle Mariners’ organization.
Southern League
- In a corresponding move to the above Texas League transaction, the Seattle Mariners’ former affiliate the Jackson Generals whom just won the Southern League Title, will now be associated with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
- Since the D-backs are moving to Jackson, their former team the Mobile BayBears will now be the LA Angels since they were looking for a new team after losing their association in the Texas League.
Class-A Advanced
Florida State League
- The FSL will have a few changes in 2017, the first a new team that will call Kissimmee, Florida home. The team will be an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The team is giving fans of the Central Florida area an opportunity to help name the new member of the FSL, check it out here.
- The addition of the new Kissimmee team is due in part to the Brevard County Manatees, the affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, leaving Space Coast Stadium. There are rumors swirling that the Brewers could me moving to Lancaster, but nothing has been officially announced as of yet.
While there are no other official deals reported through Class-A, Class-A Short Season and Rookie League there are a few Major League organizations that haven’t renewed their contracts for the 2017 season.
