Texas League All-Star Game Recap: North Beats South 9-4

Texas League all star game

The Texas League All-Star game was played on Tuesday night at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, TX in front of 7,370 fans and the North pulled away late for a 9-4 victory.

After a scoreless top of the first, the South took an early lead in their half of the inning scoring their first run on a lead-off home run off the bat of San Antonio Missions center fielder Travis Jankowski.

The South added to their lead in the bottom of the second to go up 2-0, after another lead-off home run this time off the bat of the Midland RockHounds third baseman Ryon Healy.

The North finally got on the board pulling within a run in the top of the third as Springfield Cardinals right fielder Nick Martini scored on ground out from fellow Cardinals teammate Jeremy Hazelbaker.

In the fourth, the North tied the game at 2-2 on a single by Arkansas Travelers first baseman Brian Hernandez scoring Northwest Arkansas Naturals first baseman Balbino Fuenmayor, then taking a 4-2 lead in the fifth on a two-RBI single from Cardinals center fielder Charlie Tilson scoring Travelers second baseman Sherman Johnson and Hazelbaker.

The South answered right back with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth tying the game at 4-4. RockHounds second baseman Chad Pinder scored on a sac fly from fellow RockHounds teammate Carson Blair, then a wild pitch by Travelers righty Albert Suarez scored RockHounds outfielder Chad Oberacker to tie the game.

After two scoreless innings, the North took a two-run lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run home run off the bat of Naturals right fielder and All-Star game MVP Jorge Bonifacio scoring Tilson to take a 6-4 lead.

The North pulled away with three runs in the top of the ninth when Martini scored after Tilson reached on an error, Travelers third baseman Drew Magi scored on a bases loaded walk from Bonifacio and Naturals Terrance Gore scored on Fuenmayor’s sac fly.

In the bottom of the inning, Cardinals right hander Kyle Barraclough came in and recorded two outs before giving way to Tulsa Drillers lefty Jeremy Horst who retired Tilson to end the game and give the North a victory.
