On Sunday in San Diego, Team USA and Team World put on a show during the MLB All-Star Futures Game, and at the end it was Team World who broke through late and stormed to an 11-3 victory.

But in the beginning, the game remained a close contest as both teams were held off the board until the bottom of the third when Team USA added two runs on a double from Indians Clint Frazier scoring Astros’ Alex Bregman, and a bases loaded ground out off the bat of Mets Dominic Smith scoring Frazier from third.

In the fourth, team USA added another run, which would be their last of the game, when Orioles Chance Sisco homered to extended the lead to 3-0.

Teams USA’s pitching staff kept the explosive Team World line-up in check until the top of the sixth, when they pulled within a run at 3-2, after an RBI double from Cubs Eloy Jimenez and an RBI single from Marlins Josh Naylor.

Then in the top of the eighth, Red Sox top prospect and Futures Game MVP Yoan Moncada, put Team World up for good with a two run laser to the left field upper deck that traveled 406 feet.

But Team World was not done, as they added seven more runs in the top of the ninth, highlighted by an RBI single from Mets Dilson Herrera, two RBI double from Rockies Raimel Tapia and to cap it off, a three run bomb from Cubs Eloy Jimenez.

Game Notes

Team World victory overshadowed the 3-hit game from Astros’ Alex Bregman, who was a Home Run shy of hitting for the cycle.

The game was played in front of 40,238 fans, just 2207 fans from a sell out.

With Runners in scoring position, Team USA was 1 for 10, while Team World finished 6 for 10.

Pirates Austin Meadows was initially selected to participate in the game but was placed on the DL with a strained right hamstring on July 5th, which deemed him inactive for the game.
