There aren’t many players that can say that they have had a week like Oakland Athletics’ prospect Matt Champan.
In the last ten days, the twenty-three year old is hitting .333 in thirty-nine at-bats with two homers and 10 RBIs with Double-A Midland Rock Hounds of the Texas League. In that span he has also had four multiple hit games and two stolen bases.
On August 6th, he went 3 for 4 with two homers and 6 RBIs.
He is hitting just .240 on the season, but Chapman is not the type of player who will hit for average but has hit twenty-six homers and 75 RBIs. His speed and athleticism have led to seven stolen bases this season as well.
Chapman, who is ranked as the fourth best prospect in the A’s Organization, is also seen as one of the top third base prospects in all of baseball, mainly due to the strength and power of his arm and his stellar defensive skills.
Matt Chapman was drafted in the first round, 25th overall in the 2014 MLB Draft while playing at Cal State Fullerton. The A’s have projected that Chapman will make his Major League debut in the 2017 season.
