Minor League baseball player Cam Maron is someone you would consider to be a journeyman in the game. He was drafted by the New York Mets in 2009 and remained with the organization moving up the ranks until he was claimed in the 2014 Rule-5 draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He then found himself juggling his time in 2015 between the Reds and Texas Rangers, while still trying to prove to all that he has what it takes to continue to be a productive professional ball player.

In 2015, he finished the season with a combined .242 batting average, but a change in scenery is all he needed and in 2016 Maron signed with the Miami Marlins and started his new journey with their Double-A squad. That season, the Hicksville, NY native batted .302, with eight doubles, a home run and 23 RBIs in 61 games with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

For his solid 2016 season, Maron was invited to his first big league camp in 2017 with the Marlins, a great reward for a player that has always been a workhorse behind the plate helping to make his pitchers better. With the bat he has also shown a consistency to put the ball in play and make things happen, as he has a career .282 minor league batting average.

This season Maron is putting up the best offensive numbers since his 2014 season, where he hit .283, with 15 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 50 RBIs, and 61 walks in 99 games.

Through 69 games with the Jumbo Shrimp, Maron is batting .283, with 10 doubles, a triple, five home runs, 32 RBIs and 31 walks.

The Jumbo Shrimp are in 1st place in the Southern League North Division at 35-26. A complete turn of events, as they finished in the first half in last place at 30-40.

They currently have a seven game winning streak, as they are propelling towards the organizations first Division Title under the new team name. The magic number is at 7, with nine games left in the regular season.

Maron has also been in the middle of the recent surge as he currently has a nine game hitting streak through Saturday’s game and has hit safely in 12 of 15 games in the month of August. In that span, he is batting .360, and has five multi-hit games, three coming in the last week, with a 3 for 3 game in Saturday nights victory, driving in the first two runs of the game with an RBI double to center field.

The love of the game and the support system behind Maron has allowed him to continue following his dreams. The game is a true grind, but hard work pays off and Maron has shown to be the type of player that will put the work in to get the job done and be a productive force behind the plate as well as with the bat.

Keep a watch on this team, because they are about to take the postseason by storm and Maron will be right in the thick of it all, right where he belongs.
